The Meaningful Thoughts of Matthew Eleazar

Honesty

Published on July 27, 2024

People act as if this is a moral good, but it undermines the collective social value of honesty and truth-telling if we were to keep the truth to ourselves if it "hurts others" or if it is "negative".

I am called to be honest with my dealings with myself and with others but to not always follow in the virtue of honesty.

That doesn't sound like wisdom to me.
And yet, I'm swayed to act like so in order to minimize any more social pains based on past experience. Is that wisdom or response to stimuli?
